The Family Letter

Tripp tagged me with another of these things… In this case:

Name your four favorite saints, your favorite blessed saint, and the person you think should be canonized.

Four favorites:

1. St. George - I have to mention him, after all that's the patron saint of my current call. I suppose there's also the military connection (from whence comes the name of our mission church, I'm sure). The thing I like the best about George is the story that he died for defying an order he felt to be immoral or illegal. Go George! But heck, dragons, battles, knights… How cool is that? Unfortunately George is no longer commemorated in the Episcopal or Roman Catholic Churches.
2. St. John the Divine - Not so much because of John's life, but because I have a lot of fond memories from a church of that name in Wisconsin. Very, very hospitable folks, great field ed experience… If I lived in the area, that'd be my church hands down.
3. St. Chad - You gotta love a Saint named "chad" who was mixed up in an election. Especially after… Well, think presidential elections and Florida. I'll just leave you hanging there…"
4. St. Laurence - I've often referred to him as the patron saint of cookouts. I have been told this is funny. I have also been told that this is the height of tackiness. You decide.

I must confess that even with Fogey's help in Tripp's comments I still have no idea how to distinguish a regular saint from a blessed saint. Aren't they all rather blessed? Isn't that the point?

But I guess I must choose one, so… I choose St. Mark. But perhaps not the Mark you were thinking of!

And someone I think should be canonized? How about anyone willing to be nominated for Bishop these days? Okay, humor aside… How about any of the chaplains who gave up their lifejackets aboard the Dorchester in WWII.

I'm really not feeling like finding five people to tag. But what the heck, I'll just leave out the links. I'll tag Fogey for that explanation which left my head spinning. Susie, Micah, Mary, and Todd.

I got a call Friday while I was sitting in the plane at Atlanta¹ from the repair people. They had the part, and wanted to come Saturday. Fortunately I was due back Friday night, so that worked. And…

He put it back in funny, and there's a gap at the top. I can live with that. Especially if the rats can't get in there any more.

Oh! Oh! I got tagged. I've heard of this phenomenon, but as best as I can tell it has never happened to me. Of course it appears that in order to know you've been tagged you have to read someone else's blog, so I could have missed being tagged before. Ah well.

This is an odd one, literally. 1) Share six weird things about myself; 2) Tag six weird people.

1) I like to work, especially on sermons, lying flat on my stomach on a bed. The cat likes this too, as she gets to cuddle.

2) Despite living in a place where you can get some of the most authentic, wonderful, and yet still inexpensive asian food… I really miss that cheap strip-mall Chinese food from the mainland.

3) Of all the places I have lived, I do not find Hawaii to be the most beautiful. The Colorado Rockies takes the number one spot.¹ I suspect many would find this to be at least a bit weird, especially those who have seen Hawaii.

4) For fun I have begin renting the series "Greatest American Hero" from Netflix, and am enjoying it.

5) I have given a name to my evil alter-ego. Bob. Doesn't get much weirder than that, folks.

6) Jane, Ref… What is this "cash" that you carry around and organize by value?

7) My friends, of course. I have weird taste in the same. For example: Big Tooth, Micah, Susie, Si, Dave, and AKMA. All of whom are probably flattered to be thought of as weird. And several of whom will never know they were tagged, 'cause I don't think they follow my blog closely.
